‘This is a great way to learn about hazmat and hazmat response for bread-and-butter situations, not just WMD!’
- Mike Callan, IAFC Instructor of the Year
VTRA offers a unique way to learn about nearly every aspect of hazmat response in depth. Interactive multimedia workbooks™ let you learn about threats, protection, and response. They have talks by leading hazmat trainers, great graphics and animations, and computer-based activities that are just plain fun to do! 3D hazmat operations simulations let you put what you’ve learned to work. You’ll size up situations using what your instruments and your eyes, ears, and experience tell you. And you’ll make hard choices about how to respond to explosives, radiation, and chemical threats. All of this training deals with standard hazmat response, not just WMD.
Do you know how to protect your community, your team, and yourself if there’s an attack using weapons of mass destruction?
The Virtual Terrorism Response Academy offers fire, EMS, and law enforcement personnel up to 20 hours of highly interactive – and practical – training about the science of CBRNE threats (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive), personal protection and decon, use of hazmat instruments, risk assessment, and risk-based operational decision-making. You’ll also cover triage (and, for EMS, treatment) and crime scene management. In other words, this is comprehensive training that will help prepare you and your team to respond to WMD incidents.
Don’t let the low price fool you! Real-world evaluation indicates that this may be the best hazmat training available!
Dartmouth’s award-winning Interactive Media Laboratory created VTRA with the input and review of leading experts in the hazmat response community. Development was supported by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security, which lets us make it available to you at low cost. In extensive testing, real hazmat responders have said that the program is easy, even fun to use and is probably the best hazmat training available. Don’t take our word for it. Tour the academy to see what’s there. Then get a copy to try it for yourself!
VTRA is designed for individual use in the home or at work. It can also be used in classroom sessions led by an instructor. Please note that VTRA is not currently web-based. It arrives on a DVD-ROM and installs easily on Windows-based computers. It does not require high-end computers or special graphics cards. It does require a DVD-ROM reader and audio capability.
This project was supported by Cooperative Agreement Number 2000-DT-CX-K001, awarded to the Institute for Security Technology Studies at Dartmouth College and administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Grant Number 2007-GT-T7-K016, awarded to the Interactive Media Laboratory at Dartmouth College and administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
